World Bank perks up Kalinga coffee industry

MANILA, Philippines - Tabuk City, Kalinga (March 20, 2017) – Five cooperatives here will receive P14.8 million in financial assistance  for their coffee processing and marketing enterprise.

Juliana Aclam, assistant provincial agriculturist, said the World Bank through the Philippine Rural Development Project would provide P6.3 million to the Kalinga integrated coffee processing and marketing industry.

The national government, on the other hand, will contribute P1.7 million while the provincial government will chip in P1.7 million and P5 million.

 Recipients  include the Dupligan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Tanudan Savings and Lending Coop, Mananig Multi-Purpose Coop, Gawidan Malin-awa Marketing Coop, and Nambucayan Agricultural Cooperative.

The P14.8-million project cost was approved by the Kalinga Coffee Cluster (KCC) as sub-project under the PRDP’s enterprise development component covering only production, pre-processing and consolidation of green coffee beans and unroasted coffee.

 It is in collaboration with the Kalinga provincial government, aims to explore a partnership engagement on the processing and marketing of specialty coffee, a potential add-on to KCC’s approved enterprise development sub-project under PRDP.

Aclam said the Department of Agriculture- Cordillera Regional Field Office distributed seven machineries to seven farmer associations with total value of P2.6 million.
