Love me harder: Non-gifts you can give this Christmas
I am sure you are often afraid to admit your anxieties, some of which may include the following: Am I ever going to make out with my hot Trigonometry classmate? What is that mole growing on my neck? And while we’re at it, how do I make my damn life Instagrammable?
It’s okay. We all get it, this slight(ly worrying) obsession with things that happen — or won’t seem to happen — to us. It explains why our generation seems to be more concerned about collecting experiences rather than material things. Of course, we still get those consumerist urges every now and then (see: #happykid), but we often find more reward in climbing a mountain or surfing a gnarly wave. And posting about it online, of course.
Now that the holidays are rolling in, it might be better to treat your favorite people to a different kind of wealth. Instead of scouring the malls for The Perfect Gift, give them unforgettable moments instead. It may not be wrapped or have a refund policy, but it certainly trumps a coffee mug or plush toy from Blue Magic. (Is that still a thing? I’m old.)
