2 M register for SK, barangay polls

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Over two million youth and new voters have registered for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this October, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said over the weekend.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the poll body received at least 2.1 million applications, even as he noted that only 20 days are left before the voter registration ends.

Of the figure, Jimenez said more than 1.5 million are regular registrants and 615,000 signed up for SK.

Central Luzon posted the largest number of SK voters with 80,696.

“We are reminding the public that less than a month is left before the current round of voter registration ends,” Jimenez said, adding the Comelec has no plans of extending the registration period.

The registration for regular elections will end on April 29, or 120 days before the scheduled barangay and SK polls in October.

The office of the election officer will accept applications from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday including holidays, except on April 13 and 14.

Satellite registration offices set up in villages nationwide are ready to receive applications on varying dates per village as approved by the election officer.
