PayMaya cards cleared for NLEX, Cavitex toll

MANILA, Philippines - Digital financial services provider PayMaya Philippines Inc. and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) have partnered to allow motorists to use contactless card payments when they use the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex).

Under the partnership, motorists traversing the NLEX can now pay for their tollway fees using their Beep and Mastercard contactless debit, prepaid and credit cards including their Smart Mastercard powered by PayMaya.

Acceptance of such at the Cavitex will follow soon.

Meanwhile, Visa contactless debit, prepaid and credit cards including the non-beep variant of the PayMaya card, would be accepted as payment at the two tollways within the year.

Through PayMaya Philippines’ PayMaya Business, which delivers solutions that enable businesses of all sizes to accept payments, NLEX and Cavitex would be able to take contactless card payments.

“At PayMaya, we strive to create a long-lasting impact in emerging markets through digital financial services. We hope that this collaboration with MPTC will further enhance the customer experience of motorists and consumers who rely on NLEX and Cavitex for their day-to-day travel,” Orlando Vea, president and CEO of Voyager Innovations and PayMaya said.

MPTC president and CEO Rodrigo Franco said the partnership allows the company to be ahead in customer service with the digital age.

“Partnering with PayMaya and making its technology accessible in both NLEX and Cavitex enables interoperability between both toll roads, matching the expectations of road users when it comes to convenience, efficiency, and time savings,” he said.

PayMaya Philippines is the digital financial services arm of PLDT Inc., while MPTC is a subsidiary of infrastructure conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp.

Both PLDT and MPIC are chaired by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

“The collaboration between MPTC and PayMaya moves us towards the ultimate goal — to serve Filipinos by delivering to them high quality infrastructure — both physical and digital. Powered by PLDT and Smart’s network, we are seeing more of how digital financial services can further boost and propel our economy,” Pangilinan said.
