Case fixing at CDO prosecutor’s office probed
MANILA, Philippines - Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has ordered an investigation into alleged case fixing at the Cagayan de Oro City prosecutor’s office.
In Department of Justice (DOJ) Order 32, Aguirre tasked Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Lilian Doris Alejo to handle the complaint filed by Jennifer Jamito, Jose Bustamante and Verna Ravidas against administrative aide Genard Abejo.
Abejo was recently arrested for allegedly asking P350,000 from Jamito and Bustamante in exchange for the dismissal of the rape and qualified anti-child pornography charges filed against their children.
Aguirre said the investigation is in line with President Duterte’s no-corruption policy.
“The President has made it very clear to me when he chose me to be the secretary of justice,” he said.
“I have zero tolerance for corruption. It has no place in the DOJ. It has no place in the government,” Aguirre said.
