Sen. Loren Legarda makes TV comeback

Kristoffer Martin won the Best Single Performance by an Actor trophy at the recently concluded PMPC Star Awards for Television. A few years ago, he won Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Screen Awards for his work in an indie film that was an entry in the Cinemalaya Film Festival.

The young actor, who admits feeling the pressure now that he had won another acting award, said he is very thankful that his effort to better his acting is gaining praise. “I owe it to the audience to always give a good performance,” said Kristoffer who says he is ready to tackle more daring roles. After all, he is no longer a teenybopper.

In “Hahamakin Ang Lahat” – the newest afternoon show of GMA 7 premiering on Monday, October 31 – Kristoffer is reunited with former girlfriend Joyce Ching. They were on when they were still teenagers. Now they are working with each other again as young adults, and tackling mature roles at that.

“I am comfortable working with her,” says Kristoffer. “One reason I accepted the offer to do this role is because of the chance to work again with Joyce. I believe the reason we click well onscreen is because we are very comfortable with each other. We’ve worked together since we were young. And we’ve remained friends.”

Going back to his winning an award, Kristoffer says he wants to use his victory as an inspiration to improve himself more.

“Acting is a constant learning process. One must always strive to do better in any kind of role. I want to be inspired by the awards that I receive. It is a reward for a job well done,” said Kristoffer, who as a young boy never thought he’d be an actor someday. His entry in showbiz was just accidental – he was just following the wish of his mom.

At 21, Kristoffer is slowly but surely making his own mark in showbiz. With acting awards tucked under his belt, he is very much aware that being an actor is the career he wants to pursue. So he understands the importance of loving his job and giving it everything for him to succeed.

Senator Loren Legarda returns to television to focus on traditional art and culture via the second season of “Dayaw” on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel and ANC HD. Starting yesterday at 8 p.m., the former broadcast journalist went around the country to discover the practices, beliefs and traditions of various ethnic groups in the country.

A joint venture of ANC and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), “Dayaw” is a weekly documentary series that will air for six weeks. Each episode will tackle an aspect of our culture like food, rituals, spiritual beliefs and tattooing. In her visit to indigenous groups, Sen. Legarda will be able to show the similarities and differences of each culture, and how it adds to the wholeness of the Filipino citizen.

Sen. Legarda is known for her advocacies on the rights of the indigenous people and the preservation of their traditional culture of the Filipinos. For her, every Filipino should learn about and love our own culture.

“Doing the “Dayaw” TV series is an enriching experience for me because I continuously learn about our indigenous culture with every episode. We have a very rich culture that we must all try to learn about and I hope that through “Dayaw,” Filipinos will be inspired and encouraged to discover their indigenous roots. To me, it is not just another television show but a legacy for the Filipino people,” said Sen. Legarda.

For her part, ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs head Ging Reyes expressed her team’s all-out support in the said project.

“As journalists and media practitioners, we in ABS-CBN and ANC have deemed it our responsibility, in fact our duty to do our part in promoting this knowledge about our past, and pushing for an enlightened citizenry. Thus this partnership with the NCCA. We are very proud to be launching the second season of ‘Dayaw,’” said Reyes at the press launch of the show last October 20.

"If you look at ‘Dayaw,’ it really represents what we call the IKSP of the Philippines: Indigenous Knowledges Systems and Practices and this is the only way to bind the country. You know, any kind of society becomes united by showing them their strengths. Only the positive can unite the people; negative things only tend to divide. We have to showcase the strengths of the Filipinos through ‘Dayaw,’” said Sen. Legarda.
