WATCH: Pia Wurtzbach's emotional farewell speech
MANILA, Philippines — Pia Wurtzbach delivered her last speech as Miss Universe Philippines at the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night held Sunday, April 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The emotional Wurtzbach started her inspiring farewell message by thanking God and the Filipinos whose unwavering support helped her achieve her dream of becoming Miss Universe
"Magandang gabi po sa inyong lahat. Nais ko pong magsimula sa pamamagitan ng pagbigay ng taos pusong pasasalamat sa Diyos at sa buong sambayanang Pilipino. Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat," she said.
Holding her tears back, Wurtzbach who attempted three times before finally bagging the coveted title told everyone in the audience that her biggest realization in her Miss Universe journey is to never give up on your dreams.
"We should never waiver in our perseverance and never let obstacle hinder our progress. We should have a strong heart and a prepared mind to strong that into reality," she said.
After giving thanks to everyone who helped on her journey, she ended her speech by giving a message to her successor.
"To my successor, just remember to give your best. Behind that beautiful gown, your knees may be trembling. I’m still not used to it. Being in front of millions of people is nerve-wracking but we have to remember that you are proudly wearing our sash that says ‘Philippines.’ Believe me in your moments of doubt, you just have to remember that you have the whole country cheering you on. Tonight, I feel like I’m graduating from Binibini. Tonight is the beginning of the journey for a confidently beautiful Filipina. Mabuhay ang gandang Filipina. Mabuhay ang Filipina. Mabuhay tayong lahat!
Maria Mika Maxine Medina was crowned the Binibining Pilipinas-Miss Universe 2016, succeeding Pia Wurtzbach.
