The late 1980s were an exciting time for comics books. Marvel Comics was in the midst of an incredible run where its creators were turning out character defining stories for the X-Men (Chris Claremont & John Byrne), Fantastic Four (John Byrne), Thor (Walt Simonson), and Daredevil (Frank Miller). DC Comics was in its post-Crisis On Infinite Earths phase and came out with two game changing books in Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns.

Horror is making a huge comeback - in comics, of all media. Sounds like it isn't easy to communicate in the four-colored page, yes?

The synopsis: The genocidal android, Ultron, has been shot into outer space, never to return. Or so the Avengers thought. Years later, Ultron has returned after taking over the moon of Titan, home to the Eternals and the Avengers' old foe, Thanos. Except he finds an almost entirely different crew of Earth's Mightiest Defenders. And Ultron's "father", Hank Pym, is confronted with issues and a solution that will no doubt reverberate for years to come.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that I am stuck in the past; liking only the comics I grew up reading.

"Penny Dora and the Wishing Box" from Image Comics is a modern re-telling of the Greek myth of Pandora's box wrapped in deceptively beautiful chick-lit/children's book style art.

I am a Star Wars fan. I lined up for the film in 1977 and every succeeding film afterwards. And yes, I love the prequels (but not Jar Jar Binks).
