Experience Mind-Boggling Fun at The Mind Museum This Summer

Tina Santiago-Rodriguez - The Philippine Star

If you're a parent like me, you're probably wondering what activities your children can be involved in this summer, especially if you want to avoid hearing the words "I'm bored" from your kids.

Imagine my delight then when I received an invitation to attend The Mind Museum's Family Media Day a few weeks ago. It instantly became a "family field trip" for us -- a wonderful way to start our summer (although we actually homeschool year round so technically our kids have no summer vacation)!

During the Family Media Day, we were treated to special snacks prior to the event proper. We were also given a brief orientation about the history of The Mind Museum -- totally cool stuff! It made me appreciate the museum more and learning that it was 'designed by Filipinos for Filipinos' even caused me to exclaim out loud (to my children’s amusemet), "Ang galing talaga ng Pinoy!"

After the orientation, we visited the different booths and stations that were set up around the museum, most of which were aimed at introducing and highlighting the museum's new exhibits and summer programs.

Mind-boggling fun

Now, while there is a plethora of summer activities, courses and camps to choose from, it's safe to say that the summer programs offered at The Mind Museum are truly unique -- and are totally aimed at providing children with opportunities to have fun and exercise their brains at the same time: 'mind-boggling fun,' as I call it.

Our kids totally enjoyed exploring The Mind Museum's exhibits, and playing at the outdoor area as well. Here are a few shots of them having fun (my husband and I had a blast too, though we did get tired chasing the kids around!):

JUNIOR MIND MOVER PROGRAM

Now on its 3rd year, and hailed by many parents whose kids have enrolled in it as "transformative", the month-long Junior Mind Mover (JMM) program consists of a series of exercises and workshops that are designed to expose kids to the work of scientists in museums. The JMMs will learn deeply about the Museum exhibits, as well as creative science communication through experiment demonstrations and activities on the different fields of science.

SOCCER SCIENCE is both a full soccer game and a science workshop! A worldwide favorite, this sport will be understood through the lens of science. This program aims to help people see the many physics principles at play in a game and how knowledge of physics and science in general can help improve their performance. People who have no knowledge in football but are interested in science will also enjoy dissecting the forces that causes curve balls, the trajectories of long shots, and the anatomy of a skilled player. What is more is that they will work with a “secret” kind of ball with powers that you probably have never known before! Understanding soccer can help you play better!

Program Schedule & Rates:

Ages 13 to 22 years old

  • May 14-15  |  9am-5pm at The Mind Museum, 6pm-8pm at BGC Turf
