MANILA, Philippines — Back then, it will take a four-hour ride to Roxas City before Boracay residents can watch new movies in cinemas.

But from now on, residents and visitors of Boracay can enjoy the latest blockbuster hits in just a couple of minutes.

“The addition of cinemas in Boracay is part of our thrust of bringing modern conveniences to the island. Residents can now enjoy the latest box office releases without having to travel out, adding more leisure activities to be enjoyed,” Ferdinand Sia, President of DD, said in a statement.

City Mall Commercial Centers Inc. (CMCCI), the community mall development arm of listed property firm DoubleDragon Properties Corp. (DD), partnered with ABS-CBN Corp. as they recently launched the first cinemas on the world-class island.

Located inside the City Mall Boracay, the cinemas boast of two theaters with a seating capacity of 220, as well as a state-of-the-art projection and sound system. The movies showing at the Boracay cinemas are those simultaneously shown in Manila.

Gerry Ocampo, theatrical booking operations manager of ABS-CBN Corp., said that because of the partnership, Star Cinema movies are priorities in the cinema, but the theaters are not exclusive to Star Cinema.

Since this is the first partnership of the network giant with a movie house, Ocampo added that they partnered with the cinema so that Star Cinema will have venues for its movies in areas where there are no cinemas.

The first team up of "Phenomenal Box Office Star" Vice Ganda, "Teen King" Daniel Padilla and 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzback in “The Revenger Squad” plus the comeback of the original Pinoy superhero “Panday” by "Primetime King" Coco Martin were among those first shown in the cinemas starting Christmas Day.

Since it officially opened its doors last summer, the mall has already become a top commercial destination. The addition of the cinemas is expected to draw even more people, especially movie lovers.
