CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines — A P2.6-billion tourism estate has broken ground for a new type of residential complex combining apartments and resorts covering 2.3 hectares.

Clark Development Corp. (CDC) said the South Korean project The Sharp Clark Hills is expected to be Clark’s first premium residential town with five 21-story condominium buildings, each with 508 units.

The Sharp Clark Hills is set for completion by 2020.

CDC said the project is a joint venture of South Korea’s POSCO Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd. and JB Cresta which will merge as the Sharp Clark Hills Corporation.

“The company will be in charge of the development and construction of the state-of-the-art condominium buildings, including support amenities such as a clubhouse, swimming pool, gym, spa and other related facilities,” CDC said.

POSCO is one of the largest construction firms in the world, also designing highways, bridges, roads and airports. JB Cresta is a Clark locator since 2007 as a tourism, leisure estate developer.

Present during the groundbreaking ceremonies recently were Yong Il Lee, EVP of POSCO; Seung Sik Shin, representative of JB Clark Hills Corp.; Jung Hyub Lee, project manager of Sharp Clark Hills and Evangeline Tejada, vice president for business development and business enhancement of CDC.

The project is expected to employ 500 construction workers and 50-70 regular workers once fully operational.
