Singapore Airlines celebrates golden year with diplomats, frequent flyers

PERSONAL CHOICE - The Philippine Star

There is a lot to celebrate when one turns 50. For Singapore Airlines, being around for half a century in the Philippines means a year-long celebration with special offers for the frequent and first-time travelers, as well as a series of exciting product and service developments. This year, travelers can also look forward to the airline’s expanded network of destinations, inflight enhancements, a modern fleet and more.

An exclusive anniversary celebration was recently held at the residence of Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines Kok Li Peng in Makati City. Beautiful arrangements were visible in all corners of the residence with flowers coming from Singapore and elegantly styled by floral architect Rachy Cuna.

Upon our arrival, the airline’s  iconic  Singapore Girls welcomed us wearing  their signature sarong batik kebaya.  The eye-catching uniform has been around since the early ‘70s when it was designed by Parisian haute couture designer Pierre Balmain. The Singapore Girls can be easily spotted in most international airports where travelers know them for their efficient and friendly service matched with graceful Asian hospitality.

With the theme “A Celebration of Ties that Bind,” diplomats, frequent flyers, media and partners of Singapore Airlines dressed in Asian chic attire indulged in gourmet creations of chef Gilbert Pangilinan who whipped up local interpretations of popular Singaporean dishes like satay, popiah and oyster omelet and prepared favorite Filipino dishes such as chicken adobo rice, lumpiang sariwa, Wagyu inasal and lechon. This was in collaboration with the LTB Association of Chefs who recently won several awards at the 2016 Culinary Challenge in Singapore, a prestigious event hailed as one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive food shows.
