MANILA, Philippines - Skechers Philippines recently gave the children of Barangay LAKAS (Lubos na Alyansa ng Mga Katutubong Ayta min Zambales) in Botolan, Zambales an early Christmas gift of new shoes.
The children were ecstatic that they now have new pairs to wear for school and during the holidays.
The project was mounted in partnership with the One Heart for Hope Foundation, a non-government organization that assists underprivileged Filipino children by providing their basic needs.
Global campaign of giving
The shoe gift-giving is part of Skechers’ global corporate social responsibility campaign wherein for every pair of BOBS sold, Skechers donates a pair of shoes to a child in need under a chosen foundation. This aims to make a difference in children’s lives in the hope that they can step into a better future.
The Skechers Philippines team, together with representatives of the One Heart for Hope Foundation traveled all the way to Zambales for the shoe turnover ceremony.
The group was happily welcomed by Barangay LAKAS spearheaded by their chairman, Carlito Domulot Sr. The children gave the visitors a glimpse of their culture by showcasing their local traditional dances, poems and songs.
The event was also highlighted with games and shoe-giving where each child went home with a new pair of shoes and goodies such as coloring books, stickers and food.
Barangay LAKAS is an indigenous Aeta tribe whose major livelihood is the planting of organic vegetables, root crops and rice. It is a closely knit community that gives value to family, community and education. The children are also taught to imbibe their traditional practices and culture.
