Five things you need to know about the LG Q6

LG and Samsung popularized the almost bezel-less flagship smartphone this year. Although the idea wasn’t really new (Xiaomi released the Mi Mix last year), the release of the LG Q6 last week signals a new direction for LG.

With a suggested retail price of P12,990, the Q6 is the South Korean company’s most affordable handset that sports FullVision display. LG is bringing a key flagship feature to the mid-range category.

Here are five things you need to know about the LG Q6 before getting one:

1. It’s got a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a high screen-to-body ratio of 79 percent, almost the same as the LG G6. The Full HD+ resolution is a little higher than the standard 1080p full HD, mostly due to the extra screen real estate.

Just like the LG G6 and the LG G6 Plus, the LG Q6 also features FullVision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio for better viewing experience. There’s also Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection.

2.  The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 may not be as powerful as the Snapdragon 835 but it’s a pretty capable chipset.

This is an octa-core Cortex A53 processor running at 1.4GHz and paired with a fairly good Adreno 505 graphic processor. Good gaming performance is expected at low to medium settings.

3. It’s got a dual nano-SIM slot and a dedicated microSD card slot which is rare these days for smartphones. This means you can use two SIM cards and add an extra 256GB of storage to the device all at the same time. 4G LTE is also supported.

4. Just like its big brother the LG G6, the Q6 is also MIL-STD-810G-compliant. This assures that it underwent a series of tests designed by the US military for equipment limitations to certain environmental conditions. This includes shock tests, temperature tests, and environmental extremes. Unfortunately, though, the LG Q6 is not water-resistant.

5. Android 7.1.1 Nougat right out of the box. LG is pretty consistent with bringing the latest Android OS in their devices and the LG Q6 is among them.

LG added their own custom layer called LGUX 5.0, which looks simple and easy to use.

LG is gunning for bigger screens on smaller form factors and the Q6 is just one of many more LG smartphones with FullVision display. At the suggested retail price of just P12,990, we’re pretty sure it’s going to attract a lot of attention.
