Six reasons why Canon M6 is your next vlogging camera

Shooting has never been this good: The Canon EOSM6.

Canon recently released the EOS M6 in the country. It’s the newest addition to the M-series mirrorless camera, a category that’s been hotly contested by the likes of Sony, Fuji and Panasonic.

Here are six reasons why the Canon EOS M6 can be a good all-around camera, especially for video bloggers:

Light and Compact. Being a mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS M6 was made to be more compact and light. This is one of the smallest and lightest mirrorless cameras to date.

The M6 is handy and easier to carry around every day, which is perfect if you do a lot of casual photography or video blogging. The camera has interchangeable lenses and comes with a 15-45mm IS STM kit lens that’s also light and compact.

DLSR-level sensor. The EOS M6 sports a 24.2megapixel Dual-Pixel CMOS sensor with autofocus and phase detection. This is the same exact sensor used by the EOS 800D, an entry-level dSLR, and almost identical to the mid-range Canon 80D.

The M6 can shoot full HD video at 50p, produces .jpeg and .raw formats, and even has a built-in time-lapse feature.

Expect the same performance between them in terms of picture quality and performance. Again, your biggest advantage here is that the M6 is much more compact and mirrorless.

Wireless Connectivity. Canon has finally gone wireless with the inclusion of WiFi connectivity and NFC/Bluetooth for pairing with your smartphone and transferring files.

Just download the Canon Connect app from iOS or Android store so you can control the M6 using any supported smartphone as well as copy over all the stills and videos you recorded.

Time-lapse Video. The time-lapse feature of the EOS M6 is one of its capabilities. In this mode, the camera takes up to 300 still images at three-second intervals (you can set the intervals to be longer). The stills are then stitched to each other to at 25fps to produce 12 seconds of full HD time-lapse video.

It’s quick and easy to do, and all you need is just a stable platform or a tripod. It’s fun to do this for nature shots like clouds or the beach but could also be interesting to shoot in crowded or busy areas.

The Tilt LCD for selfies. The camera has a built-in 3-inch LCD display that can tilt downwards at 45 degrees or completely flip 180 degrees to the front, making it best for taking selfies or when vlogging.

This new setup solves the previous problem with the EOS M5 where the flip screen is at the bottom and blocks the placement of the tripod on the camera.

Native EF-M lenses with support for EF and EF-S lenses. While there are limited options for EF-M lenses, Canon can provide an adapter that will make the EF and EF-S compatible with the M6. This expands your selection for really good lenses.
