SM beefs up mall experience with new mobile app

MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos have always loved shopping at SM Supermalls because of its wide selection of brands and other shopping finds, shopping-friendly store layout, ample parking space, enjoyable entertainment choices, delectable dining options, and generous promos and giveaways. But just when you thought shopping at SM Supermalls couldn’t get any better, SM launches a new, innovative way that makes malling experience at SM Supermalls even more convenient.

SM Supermalls recently activated its new SM Supermalls App at a glamorous media event held at The Block in SM North EDSA. Tech and shopping bloggers, fashionistas, moms, shoppers and media friends witnessed first-hand the new app’s various features and how it makes their SM shopping experience better.

“With the SM app, users are assured of having a handy shopping companion. It alerts users to nearby deals—events that they might otherwise miss when they’re just shopping unassisted. It arms them with tools to help them plan their shopping before going to the mall. Whether you intend to shop, dine, or enjoy our entertainment facilities and service, the SM mobile app has got users covered. It’s really something they’d like to have in their pockets anytime, anwhere,” SM Supermalls SVP for Marketing Jonjon San Agustin.

Designed and powered by Digify, Inc., the app is available for free at the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Once downloaded, users must simply register to create an account from which they can stay in touch will all the latest news, promos and events from every store in every SM mall nationwide by just scrolling through the News Feed. Like the usual Instagram feed, users can like and share promos or events in their social media timelines and even collect coupons which they can use for certain purchases.

The app also makes finding an SM mall more convenient as it also comes with a Mall Directory—simply browse the directory for all 54 SM Supermalls nationwide. Clicking on a specific mall leads users to a selection of shopping, dining, entertainment and services establishments inside that mall. You can even click on View Mall Map for a top-view of the store layout. The Mall Directory makes choosing restaurants, checking movie schedules, buying movie tickets or finding toilets a breeze!

By enabling mobile data and location services on their smart devices, users can locate the closest SM mall to their location using the Nearby Mall feature. It will even pinpoint the exact location and provide directions to the mall via Google Maps.

One common problem for motorists shopping at SM Supermalls is forgetting where they parked their vehicle. With the SM Supermall App, users can log and save their designated parking space details into the Parking Locator feature. This feature allows access to parking details even while offline. Never miss your parking information again!

The SM Supermalls App is a step in the right direction and combines the mall’s convenient shopping experience into an Instagram-inspired interface that is easy-to-use, social media-enabled, and provides users with real-time information about their favorite SM malls.

“The app was designed primarily for a new, social media-savvy generation—the millennials—to make their malling experience aligned with their on-the-go lifestyle. Whatever makes the mall-going experience more extraordinary, we go for that. And with the smartphone adoption in the Philippines expected to reach half of the population by year’s end, using technology helps deliver SM’s brand of service. It was a route that we have not explored extensively until now. And because digital never stands still, we have already lined up more exciting features in the succeeding versions of the app,” San Agustin explains.
