What is prayer to you?
Prayer for me is the ultimate miracle worker in life. In every moment, through every heartache and happiness, it is only prayers that I turn to, to keep me focused towards the path I know will be the best way for me and the people around me. Human decisions may fail at times, but I can say that decisions made through prayers will turn out right. If only we can all start our day in praying to our Lord God to lead our way and in making Him our guiding light in everything we do, for sure our lives will be as close to perfect as we want them to be.

It’s about you connecting with your maker to decipher the plan that he has laid out for you in life and the rationale behind it. On another level, prayer is a social exercise, as well as a public celebration of the longstanding relationship of God with his people, the church. Beyond theological teachings, prayer is finding that inner voice in the depths of your mind and soul where you find true purpose, peace and solace.

are. Like little children before a loving father, we open our hearts and make our requests known. Our prayer encounter can be done in words spoken, songs of praise and worship, or meditating in silence in the knowledge that God knows what we need before we even ask Him. The bottom line is that as we enter a genuine prayer experience, the real condition of our heart will soon surface. This is as it should be. This is when God truly begins to work with us. And the adventure is just beginning as we move beyond our self-centered prayers towards one that has the faith and courage to say to the Lord, “Not my will, but Your will be done.”

PATTY BETTITA, image enhancement speaker, modeling coach: Prayer is my quiet bonding time with God. I pray to him anywhere and everywhere. I always start my day with a gratitude prayer, thanking God for all his blessings. I also surrender to him all my thoughts, words and deeds for the day, and pray that everything I do will honor and please him. I talk to him the most when I do my thrice-a-week, 30-minute brisk walking in Greenhills in the morning, just after I bring my son to school. I enjoy these moments because this is when I tell God everything — my joys, sorrows, fears and hopes, just anything and everything. Whenever I get an answered prayer from him, it is also during these walks that I discuss it with him and how happy I am to have such an amazing friendship with him. This is how I communicate with God. Sometimes we just have a casual conversation, and sometimes when I’m troubled, I get a little intense. Either way, he understands and accepts. After all, he is my best friend!
