Live art at Rockwell’s Power Plant Mall creates social media buzz

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Rockwell surprised weekend visitors with the sight of professional dancers in various states of repose, their bodies adorned with paint representing musical instruments and symbols, and popular theater icons. No surprise that many of these photos found their way to photo-sharing sites, uploaded by delighted mall-goers.

“We’re happy to have received such a positive reaction to the performances. And even happier that they shared the photos on social media so that more people will  come  to see this unique performance and find out what The Proscenium is all about,” said Valerie Soliven, Rockwell Land senior vice president for High End Residential.

Dubbed #ProsceniumLiveInArt, the four-week exhibition celebrates the ongoing construction of The Proscenium at Rockwell, five residential towers set to be the hub for arts and culture in the city. Built on a 3.6 hectare lot, The Proscenium was designed by world-renowned Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott, whose unique style has won accolades all over the world. Ott first gained acclaim with his design for the Opera Bastille in Paris, and more recently, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

“Carlos was the obvious choice for The Proscenium not only because of his considerable experience in designing commercial and residential buildings, but also because of his genius in creating spaces for the performing arts. In China alone, he was responsible for building four opera houses,” enthused Soliven.

Since its first landmark construction, Rockwell Land has consistently paid tribute to the arts, even naming their towers after renowned Filipino masters—Hidalgo, Manansala, Joya and Edades.

“The Lopez family has always been staunch admirers and supporters of the arts, and The Proscenium will be the best and biggest testament to their commitment,” explained Soliven.

The Proscenium will also be the new home of the Lopez Museum and Library which contains masterpieces by Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo and Felix Hidalgo and modern work by Arturo Luz and H.R. Ocampo and Jose Rizal’s private letters.

“Not a lot of people know that the Lopezes support not one, but two orchestras. The 40-piece ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra (ABSCBN PO) under music director Gerard Salonga, and the 40-piece ensemble called Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY), which have urban poor youth as members. With the opening of The Proscenium, residents and visitors can look forward to evenings of live musical performances from our two orchestras, and from others as well.”

#ProsceniumLiveInArt runs at The Power Plant Mall every Sunday until Oct. 4 at 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m. at the P1 Concourse Level, Cinema, and Proscenium Sales Lounge.
