Matteo Guidicelli and JC de Vera love thrillers & self-help books

THE READING CLUB - Girlie Rodis - The Philippine Star

At the Metro Manila Filmfest Parade, as each of the cast members climbed up on their floats, I asked Matteo Guidicelli and JC de Vera, two of the leads in Shake, Rattle and Roll XV, to share their favorite books.

Matteo Guidicelli (who plays a doctor in the “Flight 666” episode of SRRXV) likes:

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma. (“The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari celebrates the story of Julian Mantle, a successful but misguided lawyer whose physical and emotional collapse propels him to confront his life. The result is an engaging odyssey on how to release your potential and live with passion, purpose and peace.” — Amazon review) “I like it because it teaches you how to look at life, and how a positive mind can change everything.”

The New Evolution Diet: What Our Paleolithic Ancestors Can Teach Us About Weight Loss, Fitness, and Aging by Arthur de Vany. (“The New Evolution Diet is a roadmap back to the better health our ancestors once enjoyed. By eliminating modern foods, including carbohydrates, dairy and all processed foods from our diets, we can undo much of the damage caused by our modern food environment.” — Amazon Review)It gives you an idea of the perfect diet.”

JC de Vera (lead in the “Ahas” episode of SRRXV) likes thrillers:

Coma by Robin Cook. (“They called it ‘minor surgery,’ but Nancy Greenly, Sean Berman, and a dozen others — all admitted to Boston Memorial Hospital for routine procedures — were victims of the same inexplicable, hideous tragedy on the operating table. They never woke up.”  — Amazon review)I can’t seem to forget this book I read during my high school days. It’s a suspense thriller and the book is very detailed; it scared me and made me paranoid of hospitals during that time. It’s a very good book.”

Disclosure by Michael Crichton. (“An electrifying thriller in which a shocking accusation of sexual harassment triggers a gripping psychological game of cat and mouse and threatens to derail a brilliant career.” — Amazon review) “It is another novel I can’t seem to forget. I remember reading it and feeling for the characters. I felt pity for the lead male character Tom Sanders. It’s an intelligent thriller that is also full of psychological games.”
