Going beyond Kusama with Lito and Kim Camacho

Last year I missed the Kusama exhibit at the Ayala Museum, but I recently was able to visit the collection in the home of Tito Lito and Tita Kim Camacho.  I asked them if I could come over quickly before our actual dinner so I could take photos without people in the spaces, and I thought it would take only around 15  minutes, but to my surprise I discovered much more than the Kusama Collection. 

Though Kusama is the most valuable among their collection, they have many more valuable pieces by Filipino artists, Japanese, Vietnamese, Australian and many more.  There is this saying I got from a friend, “I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress.  The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea.  How you decorate your home or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. The way you feel. Life is art.” 

Nowadays, art is so much a part of our life especially for many who are beginning to appreciate art, especially Filipino art.  Filipino art is at its peak and it’s a good sign.  Visiting the home of Tito Lito and Tita Kim is a reflection of art in all forms and how it is intertwined in everything they do and it’s all in the family.  They have been collectors for a long time and continue to add to their valuable collection.
