A new retail partner

IN MY BASKET - Lydia D. Castillo - The Philippine Star

The extension of Festival Mall in the Filinvest area in Muntinlupa fronting the hospital is vast. Most of the big buildings are still in the construction stage. Yet crowds have started to queue up at what appears to be the main entrance to one of the nearly finished structures, with anticipation apparent on their faces. Reason – the promise of an exciting shopping day. A huge retail partner has opened its doors for eager shoppers, drawing large crowds since day one.

This is the Landmark, a much welcome addition to the string of retail outlets in the area. If we must say so, this one is a far cry from the old Landmark in Makati. It is huge, mostly done in white, thus is brighter and gives the impression of being clean. All the shoppers we met so far are delighted that the aisles are wide and can accommodate two carts side by side without bumping into each other. Certainly a plus.

We went through the selling area and noted that the letterings on the signs are too small, hardly readable even with our spectacles on. This made it difficult to decipher where to find what we needed to buy. Maybe instead of white print, they should have done them in a bolder color, like black.

There is not much difference in prices and as normal in all the shops, some items are cheaper, others are more expensive.

The meat all looked fresh. Ground round is P350 a kilo; kalitiran at P504; pork tenderloin at P395; pata at P295; native tapa for P490.

For seafood – large shrimps at a lower price of P580; our favorite bangus barbecue at P93.

There are still Marca Piña queso de bola on the shelves – the small one costs P570 while the big one is at P845. There are many regional products – mixes, soups and noodles – from Singapore, Malaysia, etc. On the whole, what a homemaker needs are all available.

Another plus for us is the row of cooked food. Baliwag Lechon and Naty’s Lechon both have perfectly brown and crunchy whole roasted pigs on display and, judging from the lines in front of both, nobody was worried about cholesterol. For take home bread, Bread Talk already has a place there.

So, happily, we all have another choice for finding our food needs. Be a happy shopper!
