Editha Singian shares her “Sweet Temptations”

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Anvil Publishing releases a book aimed to satisfy your sweet tooth entitled  “Sweet Temptations: Cakes, Pastries and Other Bakes” by culinary trainer and columnist Edith Singian.

The book features the recipes and baking techniques tried and tested by Singian during her extensive experience in recipe development with various commercial kitchens.

She also traces the history of baking in the Philippines, an interesting story about the Filipino love affair with baked desserts. She writes, “Many believe that in the early seventeenth century, Spanish missionaries introduced baking to the country. Baking was done in an oven made of bricks and tiles, with wood or charcoal as the source of heat. Wheat was often used by the missionaries and introduced into the diet of Filipinos. Most Filipino desserts have a Spanish influence, and Filipinos still use the word ‘postre’ to refer to desserts.”

Celebrity Chef Saul del Rosario describes his initial reaction to reading the book : “As you turn the pages of this book and read the recipes, close your eyes from time to time and imagine Tita Edith cooking beside you with so much love and passion. Each recipe has a story to tell and it will take you to a journey where travel has no end.”

Author and TV personality, Nancy Reyes-Lumen describes the recipes in the book as as  very easy to follow. She said, “All temptations are sweet... but not all are foolproof. Edith’s recipes in this cookbook are so exact and reliable. Hobby cooks and professional chefs can be sure of its correctness.”

“Sweet Temptations” is available in National Book Store and Powerbooks nationwide.
