Tragedy led to chicken business

- Lydia Castillo - The Philippine Star

When young couple Marc and Michelle lost their new-born daughter in 2012, they did not know how they would cope with the tragedy. But soon, in their words, “the sleeping giant named Passion” roused them from their sorrow and it served as a wake-up call. They needed something to do and the first thing that came to their mind was to put up a business.

Their goal was a small endeavor to honor their departed child. They got their mission, to offer something that both young and old like – chicken. Their aim was to provide quality fast food at affordable prices, thus was born Marky’s Chicken.

They started small, in Pilar Village and in the Casimiro area in Las Piñas. The first store worked, so there had to be a second one. Expansion was inevitable and today they are in SM markets, in Convergys Northgate, SM Festival Mall and SM City Sucat Hypermart. Choices are tagged reasonably – the Solo Fried Chicken Meal (1 piece of original flavor chicken with rice) at P55, Chicken Popcorn (bite-size chicken bits) at P35, spaghetti at P40 and Soy Garlic Chicken Meal for P65. The blended flavors are original, each bite a tasty piece of chicken free of any enhancement. It comes with two types of sauces.

Marky’s Chicken, for those interested in franchising, can be reached through [email protected]. Their expanded operations now include home deliveries, catering and training seminars.  For deliveries call 02-949-9869.

This company is another testimony that entrepreneurship pursued with dedication and zeal is always bound to succeed.

Weekend at the Activity Center of Alabang Town Center (ATC) is marked by a very active movement of sellers who mostly cater to every person with a sweet tooth. Last Friday we went there early and saw the frantic   efforts of the vendors in putting up their respective tables, hurrying to display their wares as the customers started to come in at mid-morning. Mostly foodstuff, the selling area also has a few outlets selling sports wear.

Among the products that caught our fancy and pockets are: Double Delights, Premium Polvoron and Polvoron cupcakes, the former being a favorite of our five-year-old Apo B. The polvoron comes in packs of 15 for P100 and box of 40 for P200.  Flavors are Butter, Crispies, Cashew, Cookies n Cream, Peanut and Ube. The cupcakes are picture pretty, with multi-colored decorations. The company, Double Delights Food Products, is in various SM stores and can be reached at tel no.470-2419.

Cocoa Monster, tel. no. 975-0879, offers a collection of chocolate products, packaged in vibrant red and black boxes and tins. Their premium chocolate tablea costs P190 for 178 gm. They have chocolate fondue for chocolate fountain at P150 for a pack of 250 gms.

Joyce’s of 125 Ecology Village offers butter or chocolate rum cake, from P380 to P480, depending on the size. They also have dulong in olive oil and garlic at P180 a bottle of 10 ounces, queso de bola spread for P350 a bottle of 10 ounces and portobello mushroom dip at P350 also a bottle of 10 ounces. They also have special tapa marinade tagged at P120 a bottle of 250 ml.

After the meatless Fridays will come Easter. It is time to plan your Easter menu. Look out for store sales, maybe some supermarkets will offer promotional prices of their lamb cuts, their turkeys and /or their premium beef. Make your list now.

Have a glorious Sunday!
