LAS VEGAS – Manny Pacquiao had to sit out the press conference scheduled after his title-winning conquest against Jessie Vargas on Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center here (Sunday in Manila).

The culprit: an ugly gash in the head that needed 16 stitches to close.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach disclosed that his ward suffered the gash in the 12th round due to an accidental clash of heads with Vargas.

It was a non-factor though, as Pacquiao already had the fight in the bag after piling up the points for majority of the rounds, further boosted by a knockdown he scored in the second round.

The Filipino icon fashioned out a well-deserved unanimous decision victory to dispel claims that age and a second key job as a senator would render him unable to perform at the top level.
