Browlee powers Alab over CLS Knights

MANILA, Philippines — Justin Brownlee unleashed a monster performance as he powered Tanduay Alab Pilipinas to a 92-87 victory over the CLS Knights Indonesia to bolster its title chances in the ASEAN Basketball League at the GOR CLS Kertajaya in Indonesia.
Brownlee erupted for 36 points including 18 in the first quarter when Alab set the tone and completed his spectacular scoring effort with eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals to lead the Jimmy Alapag-mentored Alab to their fourth win in the last five games and fifth overall against four losses, which was good for fifth spot.
Renaldo Blackman was also solid, bucking flu by coming through with 17 points, 13 boards, two assists and two steals and his partnership with Brownlee has produced excellent results as Alab has won four of its last five outings since the pair arrived early this year.
The Knights fell to their sixth straight defeat against a win.
The Knights, however, kept the game close after Brownlee’s first quarter explosion and was in the game up to the first few minutes of the final canto.
But former PBA and Gilas veteran Dondon Hontiveros hit a booming triple to spark the run that sealed Alan the win.
After a grueling two-week schedule, Alab will get a one-week off before plunging back into action against the Saigon Heat on Jan. 28 at the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
