Lady Altas turn back Generals for solo 3rd

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Perpetual Help survived Emilio Aguinaldo College’s gutsy stand and eked out a 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 15-13 decision yesterday to wrest solo third in women’s division of the 93rd NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Cindy Imbo fired 17 points, including clutch hits, to help lift the Lady Altas to their third victory in four outings as they stayed behind unbeaten Arellano U (4-0) and San Beda (3-0).

Skipper Bianca Tripoli and Lourdes Clemente each scored 15 hits while Alyssa Sangalang and Hershey Kate Llorente added 11 and 10 markers, respectively.

“I have players who are NCAA first timers but they’ve contributed a lot in different ways,” said Perpetual Help coach Macky Carino.

EAC fell to 0-4.

Earlier, Perpetual Help overpowered EAC, 25-14, 25-19, 25-11, to join Arellano U at the helm in men’s play.

Skipper Rey Taneo and brother Sean Taneo combined for 23 hits while Ronniel Rosales added 10 markers as the Altas notched their fourth straight victory to match the Chiefs’ strong start.

Despite their streak, Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar reminded his wards to stay hungry and work harder with Arellano U and St. Benilde also dishing out top form in the tournament.
