Biado targets China, US Open crowns

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Enjoying his best form, newly minted world 9-ball champion Carlo Biado wants to stay on top of his game and sustain the momentum as he eyes success in the next big battles ahead.

Gusto kong mapanalunan yung malalaking events tulad ng China Open at US Open (I want to win the big events like the China Open and US Open, too),” Biado said in an interview on Radyo Pilipinas 2.

“Siempre pipilitin ko mag-back-to-back (Of course, I want to win back-to-back world 9-ball crowns),” he added.

Biado had ended a decade of frustrations on the international stage by first winning the gold at the World Games, then ruling in the Southeast Asian Games, before topping it off with an unbeaten run to the world 9-ball title.

“Ito ang naging kapalit ng pagtityaga ko (My patience paid off),” said the La Union native, who joined the great Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Ronnie Alcano in the elite world 9-ball champions club from the Phl.

The 34-year-old Biado will have little time to celebrate his triumph and the holidays as he’s set to compete at the World Chinese 8-ball Masters in Qinhuangdao, China from Jan. 7-12 to start off the 2018 season.

Biado also said he wishes to play a world-level meet on home soil again.

“May narinig ako na baka magkaroon ng world 10-ball sa Manila, sana matuloy para exciting (They say there are plans to stage a world 10-ball in Manila, I hope it materializes),” he said.
