Pablo to remain with Pocari Sweat

Pocari Sweat's Myla Pablo

MANILA, Philippines — Myla Pablo isn’t going anywhere.

National University women’s basketball team head coach Patrick Aquino shattered his silence over speculations that his girlfriend is going to leave Pocari Sweat to join the Philippine Superliga (PSL).

Aquino admitted that at least three PSL squads were looking to buyout her contract with the Lady Warriors, but she decided to stay to honor the remaining four years of her original five-year pact.

“She will still play for Pocari (Sweat) next year,” said Aquino, the incumbent head coach of the national women’s basketball team who is still fresh from leading the Lady Bulldogs to their fourth consecutive University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) title.

Talks about Pablo possibly leaving the Lady Warriors sparked on social media couple of days ago in connection to the brewing shakeup in the PSL in anticipation of the import-flavored Grand Prix that starts on Feb. 17.

The speculations escalated into a full-blown wildfire when Pablo posted her photo donning a Philips Gold jersey with PSL logo late Tuesday.

Observers believe that a powerful spiker like Pablo deserves to land on PSL squads looking to upgrade their firepower at the wings.

If ever, it will be a return flight for her in the PSL after leading the Lady Slammers to serious run at the Grand Prix title in 2015 with Bojana Todorovic and Alexis Olgard as reinforcements and Michele Gumabao and Melissa Gohing as key players.

Gumabao, however, bolted out of the Lady Warriors to become a founding member of Cocolife in the PSL with Denden Lazaro.

But Aquino quickly doused cold water on the rumors.

“Yes, there are (PSL) teams who expressed their interest to buy out her contract, but we have decided to stay in Pocari this year,” said Aquino.
