F2 already setting sights on PSL title defense

MANILA, Philippines — The ecstasy of winning the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix title has yet to subside, but F2 Logistics is already busy plotting its title defense for next season.
Admitting that the import-flavored conference will be tougher next year, F2 Logistics head coach Ramil de Jesus admitted that they would sit down in a crucial meeting to discuss their next course of action.
The Cargo Movers have a lot of work to do.
With the league moving the Grand Prix from October to February, the Cargo Movers would be losing prolific libero Dawn Macandili, Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron and other stars of De La Salle University to the UAAP.
Aside from that, Kennedy Bryan of the United States and newly crowned Most Valuable Player Jose Maria Perez of Venezuela have yet to formally commit, prompting the Cargo Movers to come up with an attractive package that would lure them back to the club.
Bryan and Perez are set to leave for the United States on Thursday.
“Well, I have no idea about the discussion of the management and team owners for next year,” said de Jesus shortly after staging a massive comeback to clinch the Grand Prix title over heavily favored Petron last Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“But maybe tonight we’ll meet to discuss the plans for next year. We only have two months to prepare so we might as well start our buildup.”
Aside from the players, de Jesus might also be a casualty in the league’s revised calendar, where the Grand Prix directly collides with that the schedule of the UAAP.
A 10-time champion coach with La Salle in the UAAP, de Jesus might also find himself having a tough time juggling his duties with the Lady Spikers and the Cargo Movers when both leagues open in February.
Other head coaches who will be affected are George Pascua of Far Eastern University and Cignal, Kungfu Reyes of University of Santo Tomas and Cocolife, and Francis Vicente of University of the East and Generika-Ayala.
But de Jesus said it’s no big deal.
“La Salle and F2 Logistics train together,” he said. “So hindi namin yan mapapabayaan. Kung magka-problema man, baka due to lack of players lang. Pero lalaban yan sigurado.”
