Alab rips Formosa, nails first ABL win

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Tanduay Alab Pilipinas snapped out of an alarming skid and routed the Formosa Dreamers, 78-61, to nail its first win after three straight losses in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Changhua County Stadium in Chinese Tapei over the weekend.

Reggie Okosa came through with 19 points and 19 rebounds while reigning MVP Bobby Ray Parks Jr. broke a slump and also put in a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards as the Filipinos claimed the elusive first win that also served as a debut victory for Alab coach Jimmy Alapag.

Alab did it minus American Ivan Johnson, who was benched the whole game by the team for disciplinary action.

Johnson was obviously displeased following Alab’s heartbreaking 96-99 defeat to defending champion Hong Kong Eastern, the former’s third straight defeat, last Wednesday.

Alab and Johnson will have time to sort things out as they take a long holiday break before resuming their campaign on Jan. 3 against the Westport Malaysia Dragons.

The Dreamers also fell.
