MANILA, Philippines — Erwin Sta. Maria fired 23 points as R. Lapid’s Chicharon demolished Coco Life, 93-77, to bag the Brotherhood Basketball League crown at the Trinity University of Asia gym recently.
R. Lapid’s, handled by coach Norm Conti, took control early then sustained their charge in the second half to complete the 16-point romp for the team that came up short in the Marikina City Basketball League.
Sta. Maria scattered nine of his total output in the first 10 minutes of play then combined with Francis Camacho and James Mabigat in the second half as R. Lapid’s pulled away on their way to the championship in the tournament organized by Erick Kirong.
Camacho and Mabigat finished with 15 points apiece.
“It’s never too late. At least we were able to get a championship before the year’s end. This is something we would cherish,” said Conti, whose wards barged into the finals of the MCBL against powerhouse NLEX-SCTEX.
