MANILA, Philippines — Adamson University Pep Squad ran away as the biggest winner of the 2017 UAAP Cheerdance Competition.

Not only did they secure their first-ever podium finish in the group stunts event, they also topped seven other squads where it mattered most: the main competition at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Saturday.

Head coach Jam Lorenzo said their winning formula consist of two things: Discipline and relatability.

Discipline started in their trainings and even outside of the performance mat.

"Unang una, disiplina mentally, spiritually, at saka physically," he said. "Sunod, disiplina sa group, in terms of call time, academics, all kinds of discipline."

Lorenzo shared that they built on their bronze finish in the main competition last year and wanted a routine that will be relatable to everyone—thus the ‘80s-inspired piece.

"It's not about how intense or how serious your theme is. It's about how you win the hearts of people. 'Yun ang pinaka-motto ng Adamson—to win hearts, and trophies"

True enough,  the routine captured the hearts of judges along with the crowd in the arena. And it made Lorenzo and the Adamson Pep Squad emotional.

The win broke their 16-year title drought and has brought them among the ranks of UST, UP, FEU and NU as CDC champions.
