Animo Squad out to stun the crowd

MANILA, Philippines — De La Salle University’s Animo Squad is looking to pull off a surprise in this year’s cheer-off.

And no, not because they’re composed of UAAP Cheerdance Competition newcomers.

“Young faces and new coach,” pointed out Andrew Garde, Animo Squad’s program director. “We’re hoping for a fresh start which will be very evident.”

Evident how, exactly? Garde mentioned “dance.”

“It’s not necessarily the strong suit ng team, so it excites us,” he said. “Considering we’re not one of the best dancing teams, we are attacking dance really, really strong this year.”

The Animo Squad has landed on the sixth place of the tiff in the past three years. Their best outing came in 2011 when they bagged silver.

Garde hopes returning coach Ramon Pagaduan can steer them back on top this Saturday.

“He used to coach us before,” Garde said. “He’s back (from UST) to coach us again.”

“And knowing coach Ramon, he’s good with dance.”

“Normally known for our stunts, our pyramids — now we’re going to do a lot with dancing,” he teased.
