UAAP 80 Cheerdance Competition: Details to keep in mind

MANILA, Philippines — Fans and supporters have been waiting for this day to come.

Eight pep squads, eight schools, one day, one performance run.

The UAAP Cheerdance Competition will finally happen tomorrow at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, and here are some details to keep an eye on:

1. UST and DLSU under new coaches

After steering UST back to podium finishes, head coach Ramon Pagaduan IV packed his bags and moved to Taft.

He will guide La Salle as it tries to make a return to the podium through a clean execution.

Meanwhile, former UST Salinggawi member Mark Chaiwalla will make his coaching debut this year.

It will be interesting to see what these coaches will be bringing to their new teams.

2. Adamson's impressive run

The Adamson Pep Squad surprised everyone when they came firing last season.

Their luau-inspired routine captured the hearts of spectators and the judges, and it was good enough for third place.

It was only the squad's second podium appearance, ending a 14-year drought.

3. Who will co-host the program?

It has been a running joke that Boom Gonzales is synonymous with the CDC.

While he has been good at doing the job, it was a breath of fresh air when Nikko Ramos and Gretchen Fullido took over hosting duties last year.

Aside from the squads themselves, spectators are also critical of the co-hosts of the show.

It would be interesting who will take over from last year's co-host, Alyssa Valdez.

4. The return of the UP Pep Squad

UP made a controversial decision to skip last year's CDC.

While the competition remained the same, one cannot deny the impact UP brings to the table.

Fortunately for us, they will return this year, hopefully with a bang.

It will be interesting to see how they will size up with old rival UST and new adversary NU.

5. NU's quest for a fifth straight title

National University is on the verge of tying a league record as they vie for their fifth straight crown.

The only team who has done it? UST.

NU proved they are a class on their own last season with advanced gymnastics and stunts.

Head coach Ghicka Bernabe was even quoted saying they are actually gunning for six straight crowns.

But before that, the first order of business is to win again this year.
