Kobe Paras draws flak after call for separate local and ‘import’ MVP awards
MANILA, Philippines — After his controversial advice to fledgling talent Kai Sotto, Kobe Paras is once again making noise in social media.
The outspoken Paras took to Twitter to air his sentiment on La Salle's Cameroonian player Ben Mbala bagging his straight MVP award.
Ben deserves that MVP but there should be an MVP for local players and Imports in the NCAA & UAAP...

really unfair for the locals https://t.co/hBpzswOgDd
"Really unfair for the locals," he wrote.
This comment sparked negative reaction from netizens, with some calling him a "hypocrite" considering that he is a Filipino playing abroad.
Not expecting this from you tho. You're considered "IMPORT" in US NCAA because you're a Filipino playing in US league. So if you will win MVP award it's unfair to Bagley or Jaylen Hands because they are local in that league? Come to think of it.

What did you mean by "import" and "local"? They're all student athletes. Hence they should be treated equally as such.

Why is it unfair tho. As far as I know, Ben underwent the same training, played in the same games under the same rules(?)

So you also think there should be a separate Naismith award for foreigners eh? Why are you even there man -- to be the best "foreigner" or to be the best player?

They are called student-athletes, they were recruited and enrolled in the universities they chose. They play for their schools and not for their country of origin. Thus, Mbla deserves the MVP regardless of his race. I respect your opinion though & I'll still be a fan of yours.

Earlier, the 20-year-old Paras urged Ateneo Blue Eaglet Sotto to consider playing overseas, specifically in the US.
Paras was supposed to play for the UCLA but withdrew after failing to meet academic requirements. He transferred to Creighton and saw limited time for the Bluejays before transferring again to Cal State Northridge.
He is currently serving his residency and will see action next season.
