MANILA, Philippines – In a battle between two high school basketball powers, it was De La Salle Zobel that reigned supreme when it toppled Chang Kai Shek High School, 58-43, last Tuesday in the Milcu Got Skills basketball tournament at the Buddha Care gym in Quezon City.

The DLSZ Junior Archers took control from the opening tip and never allowed CKS into the game. DLSZ coach Gian Nazario’s boys ramped up the defensive pressure on the Blue Dragons by holding them to a measly four points in the second period while his team led by 17, 28-11, going into the halftime break.

DLSZ’s Lance Barcuma led his team with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 1 assist while Joshua Tolentino topscored for Chang Kai Shek with 11 points and 4 rebounds.

The tournament’s U25 championship will be played Thursday, November 30, also at Buddha Care. The Bright Akhuetie-led University of the Philippines takes on Colegio De San Juan de Letran at 7am.

UP topped the elimination round with an 11-2 record while Letran finished with a 9-4 slate.

UP has a twice-to-beat advantage. Letran with its bevy of transferees like Larry Muyang, Bonbon Batillier, Christian Fajarito, and Norrish DeCapia hope they can forge a winner-take-all match on December 2 also at the same venue.
