Movers hope to extend win streak in Superliga

Kristina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga Grand Prix swings to Batangas City today with F2 Logistics staking its unbeaten run against defending back-to-back champion Foton and Petron taking on lowly Iriga City at the Batangas City Sports Center.

The Cargo Movers, unscathed in six games, slug it out with the Tornadoes in the 6 p.m. clash tipped to go down to the wire given the two teams’ strength and talent.

Petron, meanwhile, guns for a third straight triumph and sixth overall against a lone defeat against the seventh-ranked Oragons, who notched their second win Thursday after a month-long slump, at 4 p.m.

Despite their 6-0 record, F2 Logistics head coach Ramil de Jesus remains wary of their chances, particularly against the league’s fancied teams heading to the final stretch of the eliminations and the quarterfinals.

Cignal HD yielded to Sta. Lucia in the second set but recovered in time as it pummeled the hapless Lady Realtors, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15, 25-17 for a share of fifth and sixth spots with Generika-Ayala at 3-4 Thursday night.

The Spikers succumbed to Ukrainian Bohdana Anisova’s stellar showing for the Lady Realtors in the second set but leaned on their team effort to dominate the last two and make up for the absence of injury-hit veteran spiker Jovelyn Gonzaga.

Gonzaga is out for one to two weeks after incurring a right knee muscle strain in Cignal HD’s match against F2 Logistics Tuesday night.

Middle blockers Beth Carey of Australia and Alexis Matthews of the US, Rachel Daquis, Royse Tubino and Mylene Paat towed Cignal HD in the dominant third frame with the five delivering again for another one-sided finish in the fourth set.  Skipper Stephanie Mercado joined the fray at the finish to ensure the win.
