Lady Realtors check slump, rip Tigresses
MANILA, Philippines — Sta. Lucia Realty snapped a three-game skid with a three-set romp over guest team Victoria Sports-UST, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19, in the Chooks to-Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan yesterday.
Ukrainian reinforcement Dana Anisova, Canadian Marisa Field and local star and former UST mainstay Pam Lastimosa combined for 35 hits as the Lady Realtors dominated the Tigresses from start to finish to record their first win in the club league bankrolled by Mikasa, Senoh, Mueller, Grand Sport, Rebisco, Island Rose, Cloudfone and UCPB Gen.
Anisova hammered in 11 kills for 13 points while Field and Lastimosa chipped in 11 markers apiece for the Lady Realtors, who lorded it over the net with eight blocks, six more than their rivals in the tournament backed by Gold’s Gym and Gerflor as technical sponsors and ESPN5 as the official broadcast partner.
Despite the victory, Sta. Lucia Realty head coach Jerry Yee said the Lady Realtors still have to work on firming up their floor defense and at the same time minimize their errors to survive in the top-level competition.
Dimdim Pacres scored nine points while Carla Sandoval and Caitlyn Viray tallied eight markers each for the Golden Tigresses, who kept it close in the third frame but yielded just the same on a series of miscues.
UST, which is using the tournament as part of its buildup for the UAAP early next year, fell to 0-3.
