MANILA, Philippines -- One out of one.

Friday night’s championship experience was the first for Barangay Ginebra’s Greg Slaughter. And he’s nowhere near stopping.

Bolstering the Ginebra frontline the whole Governors’ Cup, Slaughter reached the climax of his comeback arc when the Gin Kings’ defeated the Meralco Bolts to repeat as PBA Governors' Cup champions.

And according to the big man, the win they’re enjoying now is all thanks to the victory they captured last year.

“I’m happy that we got team success,” he said. “That’s what I’m all about and all we play for. That’s what got us here. Whenever you win a championship, everyone looks good.”

The Cebu-raised behemoth, who returned from a long break caused by a knee injury, finished with a decent 12 points and hauled five rebounds. But his impact on the team has long been evident since returning in the season-ending conference.

Ginebra's latest title is the Slaughter’s first in his four-year career. After winning multiple championships with Ateneo de Manila in the UAAP, the 6-foot-11 was quick to note the difference.

“The is the top league,” he said. “Just getting to the Finals isn’t easy. Everyone just dug deep and we just pulled it out. It’s really, really special.”

So just how is he planning to get more?

“Just keep working,” Slaughter said. “I don't think my body is at 100 percent so I hope to have a better understanding of the things during the rehab. You just have to keep working and keep getting better."

“We won’t stop here. We’ll keep this thing going. I’m so fortunate to have these teammates, and coach Tim (Cone),” he continued.

“We didn’t want to just win this. We want to keep [this] going,” he offered with a smirk.

The latest championship is the eighth for Barangay Ginebra. They move one crown shy of tying the famed Toyota Super Corollas.
