Tornadoes share Superliga lead

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Titleholder Foton bounced back from a third set defeat and then wore down Cignal in the fourth to post a 25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22 victory in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan late Saturday.

Serbian Sara Klisura came away with 27 points, Jaja Santiago scored 19 points while Montenegrin Dragana Perunicnic chipped in nine markers as the Tornadoes joined the hot-starting Petron Blazers in the early lead in the season-ending conference.

Petron earlier imposed its will and power and ripped Generika-Ayala, 25-13, 25-17, 25-19.

Beth Carey of Australia had 20 points while Rachel Anne Daquis and Alexis Matthews of US added nine hits apiece for the HD Spikers, who outlasted the Tornadoes in the third to extend the match. But they failed to sustain their charge while Foton regained its form and re-stamped its class in the fourth.
