MANILA, Philippines — Malaysia sealed its dominance in the 34th Asean Senior Amateur Golf Championships by lifting the Lela Pahlawan Trophy as the tourney’s new overall champion Friday.

The Malaysians, piled up 56 points from the seven different categories played in the  three-day tournament, to beat Thailand (55) and host Philippines (50) for the  No. 1 standing in the five-country event hosted by the Federation of Philippine Amateur Senior Golfers, Inc.

Malaysia made heavy gains from its six-stroke triumph in the centerpiece Stroke Play Team Gross (702) over deposed champ Phl (708) with Individual Gross ruler Idris Ngah (219) leading the Malaysian onslaught against hometown bets Eddy Manzanares, Eduardo Sison, Edgar Quiao and Rodel Mangulabnan.

The Malaysians annexed the Stroke Play Team Net diadem (638) and topped the Stableford Play Team Net hostilities with 580 points with Dato’ Tan Seng Chee (76) winning Group E.

Host Phl shone in other fronts with Gen. Don Montenegro copping the Stroke Play Individual Net (207) and Marieto Valerio (80 points) pocketing the Stableford Age-Group title.

Also ruling their respective age-groups for the home country were Stableford competitors Glicerio Sua (Group D, 78 points), Efren Cruz (Group C, 78 points) and Edgardo Rene Samonte (Group A, 77 points).
