Huge Meralco Game 2 loss spoils Durham's 'Best Import' moment

MANILA, Philippines — Allen Durham has won back-to-back PBA Best Import citations in the Governors Cup, but he just couldn’t savor the moment.

And it’s not hard to see why.

Losing to Ginebra in just the final five minutes of Game Two, Meralco’s American reinforcement said the defeat dampened what was rather a noteworthy night.

“It spoiled a little bit of everything,” he said. "When you play good for 44 minutes, and then we come out with a loss, it’s kind of hard to take.”

Durham, a second-time import for the Bolts, won the plum in runaway fashion — besting high-scoring machines and even Ginebra’s beloved import Justin Brownlee.

"That happened. I won it back-to-back. That’s about it,” he tersely said of his award.

In the loss on Sunday night, the Bolts’ big man even finished with 25 points and 22 rebounds to lead his team in both categories.

But his stellar night and his conference-long recognition alone couldn’t avert Meralco’s meltdown.

"We played a whole lot better than Game One. I think everybody was focused. We had a six-point lead in the fourth quarter. You got to be able pull a win out when you got a lead on a good team like that,” Durham shared.

But his team didn’t. And he prefers not crying over spilled milk.

"We got to shake it off. We can’t look at we could have, should have done this. It don’t matter. We can’t get Game 2 back. We let it get away. We got to focus,” Durham said.

"You got to move forward. Good thing is we’re not too deep in the hole. We still can come back. But we got to win,” he closed.

Game Three is on Wednesday night at the Big Dome.
