MANILA, Philippines — The Memphis Grizzlies will retire Tony Allen's jersey No. 9 soon.

The team announced that they will honor his jersey should he decide to call it quits in the NBA.

Grizzlies owner Robert J. Pera commended Allen for his services in the past seven seasons.

"Tony played with a level of passion that is unrivaled. He helped establish a Grizzlies culture focused on toughness and effort, and he challenged every player that put on Beale Street Blue to match his fiery intensity," Pera said.

General Manager Chris Wallace echoed this and added that Allen will be missed by Memphis.

"Tony and his family will be missed but his impact on the Grizzlies and Memphis will never be forgotten," he said.

Allen played for Memphis from 2010-2017. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for three years and NBA All-Defensive Second Team for three years.

He signed with the New Orleans Pelicans on September 15.
