MANILA, Philippines — “The King” approves of the new NBA All-Star Game format.

LeBron James told ESPN that he is in favor of the new All-Star rule regarding picking out the rosters of the two teams.

"I don't see it as a bad idea. We had to do something. The All-Star Game has been pretty bad the last couple (of) years just from a competition standpoint," James said.

The 13-time All-Star said the same thing happened with the dunk contest and that everyone should give the new format a chance.

"February isn't here yet so no one knows how good or how bad it's going to be. But I like the change. Why not?" James said.

Starting this season, the league will not be using the traditional East versus West teams.

Instead, two team captains will be voted in their respective conferences.

From there, the captains will pick their teammates playground style. Teams will also pick a charity that they will play for.

In the last 10 years, the West won the All-Star game seven times while East only won three.

The 2018 All-Star Game will be held on February 18 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
