Angela Lee to defend title vs Yamaguchi in ONE Singapore card
MANILA, Philippines — As if November didn’t pack enough punch, ONE Championship is set to mount another thrilling spectacle when it holds its “Immortal Pursuit” card in Singapore this November.
Hometown heroine and atomweight champion Angela Lee will defend her title against Mei Yamaguchi while reigning Welterweigh kingpin Ben Askren will hold his swan song against the legendary Shinya Aoki.
Lee and Yamaguchi no longer need introductions as they’ve already locked horns in the inaugural clash for the atomweight title in 2016. The Singaporean, who has defended the strap for two occasions now, will stake her momentum against her 32-year-old Japanese.
Yamaguchi, for her part, is coming off a convincing win after submitting top contender Jenny Huang in just two rounds.
In the co-main event, multi-sport athlete and former US Olympian Askren is staking his unblemished record against arguably the world’s best grappler. His tussle with Aoki is billed as his final professional fight.
Aoki, for his part, has long proven his might in the MMA arena. But after falling to Filipino striker Eduard Folayang, the Japanese grappler has yet snare his first win. He has lost two straight since that tussle with the Team Lakay skipper in late 2016.
The double-header, slated for November 24 , comes week after a historic showpiece in Manila.
Folayang will look to keep his lightweight belt at the expense of featherweight titleholder Martin Nguyen. The two will slug it out in a cross-divisional bout on November 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
