Schrock delivers as Ceres Negros edge Global Cebu

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Stephan Schrock blasted a rocket as Ceres Negros FC outduelled Global Cebu FC, 1-0, in the Philippines Football League’s third “Visayas Clasico” duel at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod last Sunday.

Schrock found just enough space at the 79th minute to send home the marginal goal from 20 yards out that lifted the Busmen to victory in the third clash between the regional rivals, who split their first two. The Busmen won their maiden PFL faceoff last June 3 at home, 1-0, then the People’s Club returned the favor with the same winning scoreline a month later in Cebu.

Ceres picked up its 10th win overall against two draws and three losses for 32 points after just 15 games. It moved two markers behind the 34 of No. 3 Global, which had played five more matches.

“It’s very difficult to score, especially if you come from a midweek game. I was really happy when we scored the goal because we deserved it,” said Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic, whose wards played the Davao Aguilas to a 1-1 draw in Tagum last Wednesday.

Schrock scored his fifth goal in the PFL to the delight of over 2,000 home supporters.

“The home crowd has always lifted us up. The team is spoiled and I think we spoiled the people who watched the game,” said the Fil-German.
