Griffins clobber Engineers, nail No. 5

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Colegio de San Lorenzo, with import Soulemane Chabi Yo on the firing end, downed Technological Institute of the Philippines, 80-67, to notch its fifth straight victory in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 2 at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat, Parañaque yesterday.

The 6-foot-6 Benin, Africa native pumped in 21 points and 13 rebounds on top of two blocks while providing the spark in the Griffins’ big run in the second quarter that enabled them to pull away from the Engineers.

Chabi Yo combined with Jon Gabriel for 16 of CdSL’s 24-point output while limiting TIP to just 12 as the Griffins took a 42-30 lead at the turn and sustained thei charge in the next half on their way to another victory.

“Chabi Yo continues to prove why he’s the best foreign player in this league,” said CdSL coach Boni Garcia. “He’s been playing great for us and I’m hoping he’ll stay healthy throughout the tournament.”
