Stags target solo fourth against Altas

MANILA, Philippines — San Sebastian tries to keep its spot at No. 4 as it tangles with Perpetual Help today even as Arellano U and Mapua clash in a duel of struggling teams in the 93rd NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Behind Michael Calisaan’s superb offensive game, the Stags blasted the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 88-69, last Friday to tie the Letran Knights at 5-5.

They seek to wrest solo fourth with a victory over the Altas in their 4 p.m. encounter.

But the Las Piñas-based squad, in joint sixth with Arellano and EAC, is also going all-out for a win as it tries to boost own Final Four drive heading to the crucial phase of the double round elims.

Without an import, SSC coach Egay Macaraya knows they’re in for a tough fight.

“We have no import so we just have to make with what we’re strong at, which is running and outside shooting,” said Macaraya.

The Stags will also be hard-pressed to neutralize Perpetual Help’s reinforcement Prince Eze, the league’s leading MVP candidate who dropped 21 points and 19 rebounds in an 88-82 overtime triumph over Letran last Thursday.

Gab Dagangon is also coming off a strong game in a long, firing 21 points while making the clutch plays in extension.
