MANILA, Philippines -  Inaugural champion Centro Escolar University sets out for a title repeat but seven others, including newcomer Lyceum of the Phl-Batangas, go all out to foil its bid when the Universities and Colleges Basketball League launches its second season on Sept. 7.

The Scorpions have been installed as the early favorites, not only for their victory over the Olivarez Sea Lions in last year’s finals but also their strong second place finish to the Cignal Hawkeyes in PBA D-League Foundation Cup recently.

All games from the elimination round up to finals will be televised at IBC 13.

League president Franklin Evidente said he expects a more exciting competition in their second season.

“We are happy with our first season and the second one should really be more competitive and exciting with an addition of our eighth team in Lyceum Philippines Batangas,” said Evidente during yesterday’s launch of the event at H2O Hotel in Manila.

CEU gets its title-retention bid going against Olivarez starting at 2 p.m. on Sept. 7 at the latter’s gym in Sucat, Parañaque.

Bulacan State U and University of Batangas, meanwhile, kick off the action at 1 p.m.

Horacio Lim is the tournament director of the league which has Molten as its official ball.
