Never-say-die cagebelles rally to edge Thais
Game today
11:30 a.m. – Philippines vs Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR – Allana Lim bucked a sore ankle, scoring 16 points, including the winning basket, as Perlas Pilipinas pulled off a come-from-behind 69-67 win over Thailand to boost its medal bid in the SEA Games women’s basketball at the MABA Stadium last night.
Lim hit an undergoal shot and the Filipinas stole the win in the game dominated by the Thais early on.
Analyn Almazan, France Mae Cabinbin, Aracelle Abaca and Janine Pontejos teamed up with Allana at endgame, completing their fightback from 15 points down, 30-45, at the half and, thus, caught up with the Thais at second place at 2-1.
The Philippines was actually still staring at a 10-point deficit with less than four minutes left to play.
The Thais had one last attempt to salvage the game, but Juthamas Jantakan missed a short stab, allowing the Filipinas to escape with the win.
The Filipinas play their penultimate game in the one-round-robin competition versus the host team at 11:30 a.m. today.
